Home Workshop

Project brief

As a maker living in a small downtown condo, I struggled to find enough space for a functional workshop. As a renter, I also wanted to avoid drilling into walls.

My original plan was to build a desk from aluminum extrusion, but I couldn’t afford that. Instead, I worked with what I had. I secured 2×4 lumber to my existing IKEA Alex desk and used those as the structural backbone for a shelving system.

Desk setup: IKEA Alex with 2×4 uprights, white shelves with organizers and toolbox, dual monitors and laptop on the desktop, PC tower below
Finished workshop wall — no holes in the rental, lumber tied into furniture I already owned.
